Chesnock Red Hardy Hardneck Garlic is a beginner-friendly garlic variety you can grow almost anywhere in the United States!
Here's what makes it great to grow:
- Excellent for roasting. Sweet flavor also great for use raw in salad dressings.
- Stores well into spring
- Grows great in northern climates
- Purple striped color looks pretty when stored
How much should you order?
- 1/4 pound is 2-3 bulbs with 20-28 cloves.
- Plant cloves 6" apart.
- One pound will plant between 26-48 linear feet.
Growing in the South? Here's what to do:
Hardneck garlic benefits from a cold period, so if you're planning to grow this in zones 8 or higher, we recommend throwing it in the crisper drawer for about 6 weeks before planting to mimic the chilling effect of winter. Do you live in Florida or zone 9-10? Make that up to 12 weeks in the fridge, or opt for the California-grown Inchilium Red softneck variety.
